Navigating the complex world of CARB (California Air Resources Board) diesel compliance can be daunting for fleet managers. AIRLIMITS is here to simplify this process with our comprehensive services designed to ensure that your fleet meets all regulatory requirements without hassle.

Here’s how we can help with diesel compliance:

Account Creation and Management Services At AIRLIMITS, we specialize in setting up and managing CARB Clean Truck Check (CTC-VIS) accounts for your diesel fleet. Our team ensures that all your vehicles are properly listed and continuously updated, keeping your compliance seamless and straightforward.

Proactive Testing Scheduling We handle the scheduling of essential tests, including OBD and Smoke Opacity Testing. By receiving notifications for each vehicle due for testing, we help you maintain timely compliance and avoid potential penalties.

Nationwide Support Our network of CARB Certified technicians and testing equipment spans across the nation, ensuring that wherever your fleet operates, compliance is within reach.

Understanding the Regulation The Clean Truck Check regulation is crucial for heavy-duty vehicles operating on California roads, targeting nearly all diesel and alternative fuel vehicles over 14,000 pounds GVWR. This includes in-state and out-of-state vehicles, public service vehicles, and even motorhomes registered outside of California.

Exemptions and Compliance Deadlines It’s important to note which vehicles are exempt, such as zero-emission and military tactical vehicles, among others.

For all others, the compliance deadline for 2024 runs from July 1 to December 31, during which a nominal fee and clean compliance record are required.

From January 1, 2025, you must submit a passing emissions test by your vehicle’s compliance deadline. You can submit the test up to 90 days before this deadline.

For example, if your deadline is February 1, 2025, you can submit the test starting November 3, 2024.

For California-Registered Vehicles:

  • The deadline depends on when your vehicle’s DMV registration expires.
  • You’ll need to submit a passing test every six months after the registration deadline.
  • You can find your specific deadline in your CTC-VIS account.
  • Agricultural vehicles and California motorhomes have annual deadlines.

Here’s a quick look at the deadlines based on your registration expiration month:

DMV Registration Expiration Month 2024 Deadline 2025 and Beyond Deadline
January July January
February August July
March September February
April October August
May November March
June December September
July July April
August August October
September September May
October October November
November November June
December December December

For Non-California Registered Vehicles and DMV Exempt Plated Vehicles:

  • Deadlines are based on the last digit of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
  • You need to submit a passing test every six months.
  • You can find your specific deadline in your CTC-VIS account.

Here’s a quick look at the deadlines based on the last number of your VIN:

Last Number of VIN 2024 Deadline 2025 and Beyond Deadline
0 October April/October
1 November May/November
2 December June/December
3 July January/July
4 August February/August
5 September March/September
6 October April/October
7 November May/November
8 December June/December
9 July January/July

In 2024, you must pay your compliance fee and clear any violations, but you don’t need to submit an emissions test until 2025. However, you can submit your test up to 90 days before your 2025 deadline.

So, keep an eye on your specific deadline and make sure your vehicle passes the emissions test on time to avoid any issues.
